After the end of the German occupation of my country ( May 1945) and the end of the Second World War, I entered Gymnasium, thereafter studied law and did my two years obligatory military servce. It was the time in wich many of us wanted to to something for a more peaceful world order, for reconciliation in Europe, unity between Christians. Our thoughts were oriented towards contributing to THE COMMON GOOD, bonum commune. In short we looked for public service jobs. Retired (long time) from my job as university professor, the common good today - if understood at all - is no longer ashared purpose. After the end of the Cold War in Europe - 1989 to 1991 - privatization of everything, including the public services, is the new ideology apparently and most people look for profit and prominence: earn a lot and be the first! Everything must conform to the market and "I must win the competition".
